Quoi de neuf dans le vieux blues ? Celui d’avant-guerre (celle de 39-45), joué sur une guitare en bois ou en métal, en tapant du pied et en chantant avec son cœur et ses tripes ? Ce bon vieux blues rural, influence majeure de toutes les (bonnes) musiques qui l’ont suivi, existe toujours, et pas seulement en 78t ou sur des rééditions en noir et blanc. Aujourd’hui, Nat Myers est dans le top 5 mondial de ceux soufflent sur les braises et remettent de la vie dans le folk-blues. Un jeune américain qui a vécu quelques années de bohème, sa guitare sur le dos, avant de croiser la route de Dan Auerbach des Black Keys. Ensemble, ils ont enregistré à l’arrache un 1er album, “Yellow Peril”, qui convoque les grands esprits de Charley Patton, Muddy Waters ou Mississippi John Hurt.

Entre baroudeur-troubadour et ethno-musicologue non-attitré, tel pourrait se définir Cory Seznec et son unique univers. Franco-américain à Paris, son jeu de guitare est syncopé, poly-rythmé, métissé. En outre, il chante, fait du banjo “old-time” et se baigne depuis longtemps dans les musiques traditionnelles américaines. Tout cela fait de Seznec un artiste qui cherche à tracer les points communs entre les cultures musicales et dont les chansons laissent le passé se répercuter dans le présent.
